Islands of Loneliness, a documentary about immigrants and mental health. What happens when immigrants leave everything behind: family, culture, traditions and their native country to come to the United States to start a new life? Islands of Loneliness examines the chronic stress and trauma associated with being an immigrant in Sonoma County, CA.
The documentary, features interviews with mental health industry experts, persons who are immigrants and have experienced mental health challenges from chronic stress to trauma to depression. This film is made possible by a generous grant from Sonoma State University. It will be directed by Malinalli López for XQL media and produced together with Dr. Daniel Melero-Malpica and Sonoma State Students who are studying the intersectionality of race, gender and class.
